Before You Go

• Hair length matters: Most estheticians want about ¼ inch (≈ grain of rice length).

• Skip irritation triggers: Avoid retinoids, strong exfoliants, or sunburn on the area for a few days before.

• Clean skin: Shower beforehand, but don’t apply heavy lotions or oils.

During the Appointment

1. Consultation

Your esthetician will:

• Ask about skin sensitivities, medications, or conditions

• Confirm what area you want waxed (legs, underarms, bikini, etc.)

• Explain the process and aftercare

2. Prep

• You’ll be positioned comfortably (often on a treatment table)

• The area is cleansed to remove oils/sweat

• A light powder or pre-wax solution may be applied

3. Wax Application

• Warm wax is spread over the skin in the direction of hair growth

• Two common types:

  • Soft wax: Removed with cloth strips

  • Hard wax: Hardens and is removed without strips (often used for sensitive areas)

4. Hair Removal

• The wax is quickly pulled off against the direction of hair growth

• You’ll feel a quick sting—it’s fast, but intensity depends on the area (bikini tends to be more sensitive than legs)

5. Repeat

• The process is repeated section by section until the area is smooth

• Tweezers may be used for stray hairs

After the Wax

• A soothing lotion, oil, or gel (like aloe) is applied

• Mild redness or small bumps are normal and usually fade within hours

Aftercare Tips:

For the next 24–48 hours:

• Avoid hot showers, saunas, or intense workouts

• Skip tight clothing (especially for bikini areas)

• Don’t exfoliate immediately—wait a couple of days

• Avoid sun exposure or tanning
